2026 Spring Show Report

See below the report from our 2026 Spring show from Paula Martin, our head horticultural coordinator.

The Spring Show was held on 21 March this year and the daffodils were at their peak at the right time as the weather co-operated for once.   Thanks go to Roger and Jenny Butler and Mychelle Bassill for giving us their time for judging the entries

There were 29 different people showing (a significant increase on the 15 last year) and 155 entries in total again almost doubling the entries from last year.  Thank you so much all those of you who made the effort to enter and make the event the wonderful show of flowers, pot plants and craft efforts that it was.

There were 44 daffodil entries in the 11 relevant classes and the other popular classes were for grape hyacinths and camellias for flowers, while cactus and patio containers were also popular.  In the craft classes there were 3 in marmalade, 6 in jam and 12 photographs as well as in baking and painting.  Finally thanks to a local flower arranging club we had to create more space for the 10 entries in 2 classes.   All in all a good display and a very social occasion.

We had quite a number of new faces visiting us after judging was complete and served a lot of tea, coffee and cakes (very nearly running out of cake despite starting with 5!) so hope that we have inspired more people to enter next year.

Finally I would personally like to thank all the people who stayed after collecting their entries to help clear the decks and wash up in the kitchen – It meant I got home earlier that anticipated!
