Now in its 25th year, Swallowfield Art Group (SAG) was inspired after a demonstration by artist Terry Harrison at the local W.I. Swallowfield resident Sylvia Moore was keen to encourage people to use the artists’ materials bought at this session and formed a group which very quickly grew and moved from Riseley Memorial Hall to Swallowfield Parish Hall.

We are a group of amateur artists and the group caters to a wide range of abilities, though the overall standard is very high. Some sessions are tutored (our current tutor is local artist Elizabeth Baldin) and untutored sessions provide an opportunity for members to work in their preferred medium on their own projects, benefitting from feedback from fellow artists.

Swallowfield Art Group holds its annual Art Exhibition in its own marquee at the Swallowfield Show – this is separate to the art categories in the main Show marquee, which our members do also take part in with some considerable success.

As for the Main Show, we do our best to achieve a formal display in a very informal setting, with netting for hanging works around the marquee and tables of display boards for smaller and lighter pieces. A very broad range of members’ pictures is displayed, many of which are for sale with prices for every pocket.

Do please seek us out, children in particular enjoy looking at the pictures (always lots of animal pictures) and all visitors have a chance to enter our free Prize Draw. We accept members from the Swallowfield area only as there is a waiting list for membership.
