Swallowfield Bridge

AUGUST UPDATE

You may be aware that, earlier this year, an articulated lorry caused significant damage to the bridge near the Swallowfield Showground

The damaged bridge will be managed by temporary traffic lights which will be manned for the duration of the show.

It is import to note that when exiting the showground that the lights are two way NOT three way. This means that when the green light shows on the road exiting the site it ALSO SHOWS GREEN for the cars to your left. IT is therefore essential that you LOOK LEFT before driving out of the service road or you risk being hit by cars coming from that direction !! We have been made aware of several near misses so extreme caution is advised.

That said with the manned traffic lights in operation we do not expect the bridge damage to cause any unnecessary disruption to the show.

The show will go on

Whilst this temporary solution enabling the use of the bridge is in place, the usable width of the bridge has been severely reduced which could be an issue for larger vehicles.

Please be aware, as things stand, when leaving the Swallowfield Park, all drivers need to be aware that the temporary traffic lights are 2 way, not 3 way, and traffic on the B road from the left has priority when approaching the bridge.

We hope our discussions with the council will lead to show time changes in how traffic is managed enabling more flexibility thus allowing us to better control local traffic and showground access.

Please check the show website prior to the show for any changes to the access arrangements.
